Augmented Reality - what are the possibilities?
Although Augmented Reality (aka AR) has been around for decades, its use in education has thus far been limited. Educators could potentially use AR for subjects such as 3-D design, architecture, geography, geology, astronomy, etc. (subjects that requires 3-D modelling).
AUGMENT, an augmented reality app, was first created by Jean-François Chianetta in October 2011, and has an education section. has various potential uses in education, and this article, "5 Top Augmented Reality Apps", has pointed to several interesting AR Apps that can be used in education. These sites should give you some ideas about some of the groundbreaking ways that reality can be enhanced and augmented in education. |

In this activity, we ask you to brainstorm areas of study that could implement Augmented Reality. Is AR only suitable for the subjects such as Applied Science? Or does it have the potential for wider applications to disciplines such as anthropology or criminology? For example, in the Iron Man franchise, Tony Stark often uses AR as an information provider or real-time analyst. The discontinued Google Glass had similar feature as well. Can you think of any opportunities for teaching and learning that could be enhanced with AR? |
